Quality Assessment: The Blind Side

Sandra Bullock is indeed having an amazing year at the movies, and us the audience are enjoying it in return.
She could have played this on a silly note or gone the big/bold/cartoonish way but she doesn’t. She keeps the character grounded, honest and (for what I’ve heard) pretty close to the real life Leigh Anne Tuohy. It truly is a pleasure [...]

Quality Assessment: The Road

3 weeks without watching a single movie was the equivalent of torture. Thankfully I put an end to it by finally seeing The Road today as a bit of a 3 months in NY anniversary. (such a short time and yet it still feels like I’ve been here for years now)
As you know, I’ve been dying to [...]

Incoming: A Single Man

The debut film of fashion designer Tom Ford, A Single Man, which is an adaptation of a 1964 novel of the same name by author Chistopher Isherwood (I had no idea of that) has been garnering tons of praise and even if the film doesn’t connect on an emotional level–which I don’t think is the case here–it sure will look [...]

Quality Assessment: Precious: Base on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire.

Precious: Base on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire is this year’s Doubt: A perfectly good drama (at times right down brutal) with very good acting that unfortunately keeps getting “interrupted” by its director’s penchant for pandering, metaphoric images.  Will it get nominated for a best picture oscar? It certainly seems likely, specially now with ten spaces to [...]

TV: “V” episode 2.

Last night second episode of ABC revamped version of 80’s classic “V” did a good job of continuing the momentum of the premiere episode, while pulling the reins back and letting everything flow in a much calmer yet tense way.  With the rush of the first episode out-of-the-way, characters had time to breathe and really let themselves sink [...]

TV: “V” Season Premiere

I know, I know; I’ve abandoned TV. I’m sorry but when I moved I knew something had to be sacrifice and TV became the lamb.  I could have never given up on the other 3 main components of this blog: Books/Writing, Music, Movies.  Besides, we all know TV is evil; besides turning you into a [...]

Quality Assessment: Amelia

There’s really not much to say here but one thing: so much potential, a great cast, a complete misfire.  This year’s  ”Australia” exactly.  Some moments are good but for the most part is pretty bland and unecessary. Grade: C.

Quality Assessment: Patrick Wolf’s “The Bachelor”

I know, I know, I’ve been taking my sweet ass time with this one, but here it is at last.
Let me begin with the at once surprising and obvious: Is Patrick Wolf incapable of producing albums that are anything but great piece of art?  Yes, that sounds a bit pretentious but how else to describe [...]

Video of the Week: Damien Rice’s “9 Crimes”

In celebration of the news that Damien Rice is finally putting out some follow up music to 2006’s “9″ album (about bloody fucking time!) I’ve decided to pick one of his videos for this week.  The man has a penchant for odd videos and this isn’t a depart from it, but I find the video [...]
